About us

Active Bioscience was founded in 2006 by our manager Dr Bärbel Icheln.

She has been trained as an analytical organic chemist at the University of Hamburg. With her postdoc research appointment in 1996 at McGill Cancer Centre, Montreal, in the working group of Irving W. Wainer, she moved into the area of life science research.

In 1997 she joined the biotech task force of Strathmann AG. She later moved to the medical department as a scientific advisor for drugs. In December 2002 she became head of sales and marketing for research chemicals. When Strathmann decided to focus on the pharmaceutical sector by selling the biotech department, she founded her own business for research products in life sciences, Active Bioscience.

Shortly after, in 2007, she was offered to become Managing Director of the German branch of PeproTech. For 13 years she developed their operations in Germany. When PeproTech was acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2019, she decided to leave her position to focus entirely on developing Active Bioscience.

Dr Bärbel Icheln started Active Bioscience with the aim to provide high quality products for the life science community with an exceptional, reliable and personal service.

Our product range includes recombinant proteins (cytokines, chemokines, growth factors, receptors, ligands, hormones among others), antibodies, CD antibodies, enzymes and ELISA kits. Our products are used in a number of research fields including stem cells, cancer treatments, immunology, veterinary medicine and organoids.

We offer custom production, custom vialing and bioassay service.

With very few exceptions, we ship our products worldwide.

We are the distributor of PeptiGrowth for Europe as well as the distributor of Athens for Germany, Austria and Switzerland and the distributor of Diaclone for Germany.
