Description of Human Immunoglobulin G, Fab'2 Fragment (IgG Fab'2)

Human Immunoglobulin G, Fab'2 Fragment (IgG Fab'2) is a 110 kDa protein. The IgG F(ab')₂ fragment is a bivalent, proteolytic product of Immunoglobulin G, retaining two antigen-binding (Fab') regions connected by disulfide bonds in the hinge region while excluding the Fc domain2. This structural configuration preserves avidity through dual antigen engagement, offering a higher association constant compared to monovalent Fab fragments-particularly advantageous for low-affinity antibodies requiring enhanced binding stability. The absence of the Fc region eliminates interactions with Fc receptors and complement proteins, minimizing nonspecific immune activation and background noise in diagnostic assays3.
