Description of Human/Murine/Rat Activin A
The active form of recombinant human Activin A is a 26.2 kDa disulfide-linked homodimer of two beta A chains, each containing 117 amino acid residues, belonging to the TGF-beta family. It exhibits a wide range of biological activities including regulation of cellular proliferation and differentiation and promotion of neuronal survival. Elevated levels of Activin A in human colorectal tumors and in postmenopausal women have been implicated in colorectal and breast cancers, respectively. The biological activities of Activin A can be neutralized by inhibins and by the diffusible TGF-beta antagonist, follistatin.
Biological Activity
The ED50 of ≤ 1,5 ng/ml was determined by its ability to induce cytotoxicity of MPC-11 cell. It corresponds to a specific activity of ≥ 6 x 105 U/mg.
Reconstitution
We recommend a quick spin followed by reconstitution in water to a concentration of 100µg/ml. This can be stored 4°C for 1 week or -20°C for future use. For long term storage we recommend to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA, order number: 2835.955.xyz or 2835.958.xyz, or BSA, order number: 2835.919.xyz).
Stability
The lyophilized protein is stable for a few weeks at room temperature, but best stored at -20°C. Reconstituted Activin A should be stored in working aliquots at -20°C. Please avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
